Kathmandu, September 19
Professor Dr Govinda KC, who has been launching a movement seeking reforms in Nepal’s medical sector, has decided to put on hold his planned hunger strike for a week.
Dr KC had given government until Sunday to implement an agreement reached with him.
With the government making a written commitment to implementing the agreement, Dr KC decided to put the fast on hold for a week. Dr KC said at a press conference at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital that he decided to shelve the strike, pointing it will be appropriate to give the government sometime to translate its pledges into action.
Dr KC said he has given the government 10 days to start the process for impeachment of Lok Man Singh Karki, chief commissioner, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
He threatened to launch a fast-unto-death if the government does not initiate the process within the deadline.
