Drainage issue at Simkot airport resolved after 2 days

Humla, January 23

The drainage water from the market area that had entered Simkot Airport has been managed after two days.

Following reports about the problem caused by the drainage water entering the airport, a discussion was held under the leadership of Humla’s Chief District Officer, Narayan Pandey, with relevant stakeholders in the district.

As per the decision made in the meeting, the drains in the market area and Simkot Airport were cleaned and managed early Thursday morning, informed Chief District Officer Pandey.

A joint effort by the Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, Simkot Rural Municipality, local political parties, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and hotel owners led to the cleanup of the market and airport areas, he added.

“Keeping Simkot Bazaar clean and peaceful is the responsibility of all citizens,” said Pandey while informing about the cleanup. He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found littering in the market area.

Mahendra Singh, Chief of Simkot Airport, mentioned that cleaning up the airport area has made operations significantly easier.

The drainage issue arose because food waste, plastic, and other garbage from hotels and shops in the market area were being dumped into the drains, which eventually flowed into the airport premises.
