Mangalbare (Ilam), January 31
Essential oil extracted from locally grown herbs in Ilam is now being exported internationally. The essential oil manufacturing plant operated by Nitya Raj Dahal in Maijogmai Rural Municipality has been exporting its products abroad, primarily to France.
Established 13 years ago, the factory began exporting herbs and essential oils last year. Dahal stated that the facility produces essential oils from various plants, including mugwort, black juniper, mint, and wintergreen. Currently, extracts from mugwort, cypress, and mint are being exported overseas.
“We are preparing to extract essential oil from geranium, wild marigold, black mint, rosemary, and other locally available plants in the near future,” Dahal said.
He noted that foreign customers have started showing interest in Nepali natural herbal products, prompting the factory to expand its production to meet demand.
As an Osho follower, Dahal mentioned that many foreigners who visit his place for meditation purchase his products and take them home.
“Initially, foreign customers were not very interested in our products, but after educating them about their benefits, their interest grew. The recent increase in sales has been encouraging,” he shared.
The essential oil extracted from black juniper is sold for Rs 2,500 per kilogram, while mugwort oil is priced at Rs 6,000 per kilogram. Mint and wintergreen essential oils are sold at Rs 7,000 per kilogram.
Dahal cultivates a variety of herbs on 35 ropanis of land and also sources raw materials from local farmers.
Local resident Keshav Dahal highlighted that the commercial production of essential oils has effectively utilized vacant land in the village, promoting economic growth at the community level.
