Farmullah Mansoor quits Congress establishment faction, joins Team Deuba

Kathmandu, March 4

Nepali Congress leader Farmullah Mansoor has quit the establishment faction and joined the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction. Mansoor, Member of Parliament representing Bara’s constituency 3, took the move at a time when registration of candidates for different NC positions is underway. Mansoor, who had reached Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha early on Friday morning, told Onlinekhabar he will support Deuba’s candidature for the party President’s position. “In the past, I worked closely with Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushil Koirala. Now on, my political journey will be with Deuba,” he said.

Mansoor expressed dissatisfaction with the ways of the party’s establishment faction, accusing it of not involving him in the party’s decision-making process. Mansoor was aspiring for the position of treasurer. As Ramchandra Poudel of the establishment faction chose Sita Devi Yadav over him, Mansoor took this move.

Mansoor accused Poudel of settling old scores. I stopped Ramchandra from contesting the race for NC’s parliamentary party leader, he said, adding: I learnt later that he was angry with me over this issue, so he took a decision against me in a conspiratorial manner.”
