Gaining strength? UCPN-M decides to unite with different Maoist factions, parties

UCPN-Maoist-Meeting-1 (1)

Kathmandu, May 11

The UCPN-Maoist has decided to bring some Maoist parties and factions under its fold. The UCPN-Maoist standing committee meeting held on Wednesday decided to unite with Matrika Yadav’s Maoist party, Mani Thapa’s Maoist party and factions of the Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Revolutionary Maoist party and Biplav-led Maoist party.

We had been discussing the possibility of bringing different Maoist parties under one fold and reconstitue the party. Today, we have made a formal decision on unification, UCPN-Maoist standing committee member Janardan Sharma Prabhakar told Onlinekhabar.

Prabhakar said they have called another standing committee meeting on May 14 to approve the decision that Wednesday’s standing committee meeting has taken.

On Tuesday,  the Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ faction of the Baidhya-led party was to announce its split by organising a meeting of central working committee members. But the plan to split and unite with the UCPN-Maoist got delayed with Baidhya calling another meeting of party office-bearers.

A majority of CWC members of Baidhya’s party are said to be in favour of uniting with the UCPN-Maoist, though Baidhya and other leaders like Hari Bhakta Kandel and CP Gajurel are against the same.
