Kathmandu, May 4
Bharat Raj Gautam, a secretary at the Federal Parliament Secretariat, has been recommended for promotion to the position of secretary general in Parliament.
House of Representatives Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina jointly recommended the promotion. The constitution has it that the president will appoint the secretary general upon the joint recommendation.
The position was vacant since the retirement of incumbent Manohar Prasad Bhattarai in late March. Since then, Gopal Nath Yogi was working as an acting secretary general.
