Kathmandu, December 21
The Kathmandu District Attorney’s Office has directed the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police to release the then chairperson of Nepal Engineering College, Lambodar Neupane.
The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had arrested him in Kathmandu on November 25 on the charge of defrauding people of Rs 37.1 million.
In February 2019, a member of the Commission of the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Raj Narayan Pathak, was found to have received Rs 7.8 million as bribe from Neupane. Following the revelation, Pathak had resigned from the constitutional anti-corruption watchdog so as to avoid impeachment.
However, the attorney’s office says the police investigation is not complete yet and the report presented by the CIB lacks some evidence. Therefore, no case cannot be filed immediately.
“Now, we will summon him to our office every day and continue the investigation,” a CIB official says.
