Hetauda Cement Industry, which has been closed for a long time, is set to resume production in the first week of April.
Acting General Manager of Hetauda Cement Industry, Engineer Nabin Kumar Karna, stated that preparations are underway to start production after completing the maintenance of the industry’s machinery, securing raw materials, and ensuring that employees have agreed to work. It took some time to repair the machines as they were old and damaged.
These machines were installed when the industry was established, and they had to be replaced with new ones. However, due to financial constraints, we couldn’t replace them immediately, so we repaired the existing ones,” he said.
According to him, cement production will begin using the repaired machines, and some raw materials are already in stock, with more being brought in. “Currently, we have around 100 tonnes of coal in stock. More coal is arriving tomorrow, so there should be no issue with raw materials,” said Acting General Manager Karna.
He also mentioned that the electricity problem the industry was facing would be resolved. “We have had talks with Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for a regular power supply to run the industry. NEA has committed to providing regular electricity,” he added.
The industry had halted cement production on October 1, 2024, to repair various equipment. Due to the closure, employees have not received their salaries and allowances for the past three months. The Hetauda Cement Industry, which has a production capacity of 16,000 sacks of cement per day, has been significantly affected by financial difficulties and other issues.
Established in 1977, the Hetauda Cement Industry began production in 1987.
