HoR passes bills on Banking Offences and Legislation

Kathmandu, February 10

The House of Representatives (HoR) has unanimously passed two bills related to banking offences and legislation on Sunday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel presented the proposal for the passage of the Banking Offence and Punishment Bill-2081 and the Legislation Bill-2081. Similarly, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya tabled the proposal seeking the passage of the Legislation Bill-2081.

Before the approval, both ministers addressed concerns and questions raised by lawmakers during discussions. DPM Paudel emphasized that the banking offence bill aims to establish a legal framework for investigating, prosecuting, and taking action against financial crimes, including cheque bounce cases. Meanwhile, Minister Chaurasiya stated that the legislation bill is designed to strengthen legal provisions and further empower citizens.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire, during Minister Chaurasiya’s response, presented the government’s approved amendments to the bills. These amendments were subsequently endorsed for incorporation.

The next meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled for Monday.
