The Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) has unanimously endorsed the Water Resources Bill, 2081.
The committee’s 48th meeting, held at Singha Durbar on Monday in the presence of Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Dipak Khadka and Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, unanimously passed the bill on Monday.
The bill aims to ensure the sustainable development, use, protection, and management of water resources; distribute benefits fairly; mitigate weather and water-induced disasters; and enhance dam safety.
Stating that the bill was approved after rigorous discussion and hard work, Minister Khadka emphasized that it was a matter of public concern. Similarly, Minister Chaurasiya affirmed the Ministry of Law’s commitment to implementing the decision of the lawmakers.
The bill was tabled in the HoR on June 28, 2024, and referred to the Infrastructure Development Committee for a clause-wise discussion on July 9.
