Kathmandu, November 22
A parliamentary committee on Tuesday lifted the ban on sending Nepali youths abroad for employment as security guards.
The committee decided to let the government send youths abroad to work as security guards. This means manpower agencies can now send the youths abroad to work as guards. At the same time, the committee directed the government not to allow agencies facing cases to send youths abroad for such jobs.
Tuesday’s meeting of the parliamentary International Relations and Labour Committee lifted the ban.
As per the committee’s directive, the government had, about three months ago, imposed a ban on sending youths abroad to work as security guards.
Committee member Chudamani Jangali informed that those wishing to go abroad and work as security guards will get labour permit.
The committee had directed the government not to issue the labour permit to those wishing to work as security guards abroad, pointing that aspirants were not getting free visas and tickets, there was no guarantee of their security at the workplace and those already working abroad as guards were facing a lot of hardships.
After the ban, Malaysia had started employing people from other countries as security guards.
Manpower companies facing cases at the Department of Foreign Employment and Labour Court will not get the permission to send security guards abroad, Jangali said, adding: Other manpower agencies can send security guards abroad by adhering to government-set rules.
