Another lawmaker came to the fore on Tuesday, demanding payment of salary and allowances in keeping with the ‘recent hike’.

Recent media reports had written about a proposal to hike the pay and perks that Members of Parliament are entitled to.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Parliament, Nepali Congress lawmaker Ram Ayodhya Prasad Yadav asked: Where’s the hiked pay and perks?

Recently, another NC lawmaker Prem Kishor Prasad Sah said in the House that the current payscale is not enough for lawmakers to make a living in Kathmandu. He had demanded a hike in pay and perks.

On Tuesday, lawmaker Ram Ayodhya came down heavily on the media. After reading media reports about the hike, homeowners have hiked house rent by Rs 20, 000-25, 000, he lamented.

Ram Ayodhya said: Media should run reports that are based on facts. Lawmakers’ allowances have remained the same for 21 years. Homeowners have hiked house rent after reading about hike in allowances, while we are yet to get a hike.

He then urged the government to provide hiked pay and perks to lawmakers, effective from mid-July.
