Kathmandu, May 25
The Nepali Congress has insisted that the second phase of local elections take place on June 14, the date announced by the government.
The ruling coalition partner, which organised a meeting of office bearers a few hours after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal stepped down from his post, said local elections in provinces 1,2,5 and 7 should take place on the stipulated date.
The meeting has also decided to instruct local units to recommend candidates for the second round of elections by Friday.
Party leaders, however, said they haven’t discussed the details of the new government, which Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba is tipped to lead.
