Kathmandu, April 22
Indian Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, arrived in Kathmandu today for a two-day official visit to Nepal. He was welcomed at the airport by officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Energy and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
Khattar’s visit follows an invitation extended by Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, during his trip to India on February 12, 2025.
During his stay, Ministers Khattar and Khadka will jointly inaugurate the 220 kV Inaruwa–Basantpur–Baneshwor–Tumlingtar transmission line under the India-assisted Koshi Corridor project. They will also inaugurate several substations—Tumlingtar (220/133/33 kV), Baneshwor (220/33 kV), and Basantpur (220/133/33 kV)—at Tumlingtar in Sankhuwasabha.
Khattar is also scheduled to inspect the powerhouse and dam site of the Arun III Hydropower Project, constructed with Indian assistance. Additionally, both sides will sign an agreement related to a new joint transmission line construction company.
On Tuesday (April 22), Khattar will visit the sacred Muktinath Temple in Mustang. He will also pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh the same day.
He is expected to visit Pashupatinath Temple Tuesday evening before returning to India.
