Kathmandu, September 16
The National Information Commission has directed the Tribhuvan University to revise the charges it requires for students to pay in order to check examined answer sheets of their examinations.
In response to a complaint filed by Kalpana Bhattarai of Nawalparasi, the commission had issued the order five years ago. After the university did not obey the order, the commission issued the second directive on September 8. The university has been told to implement the order within the next 15 days.
Bhattarai in her complaint had mentioned that the charges were impractical and expensive in comparison with other charges. The TU currently demands Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,5000 respectively to check an answer sheet for a year-system and semester-system examination.
The Right to Information Act, however, requires any public institution to give information up to 10 pages for free and charge Rs 5 for each page after that.
