Kathmandu, March 20
The International Day of Happiness is being observed today with various programs worldwide. The United Nations General Assembly declared March 20 as the International Day of Happiness on July 12, 2012, to emphasize the importance of happiness and well-being in people’s lives.
The initiative to observe this day was led by Bhutan, a country that has prioritized Gross National Happiness over Gross National Income since the early 1970s and adopted national happiness as a policy goal.
Similarly, French Language Day is also being celebrated today. The United Nations marks six different language days to promote linguistic and cultural diversity. These include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish Language Days.
The UN began celebrating French Language Day on March 20, 1970, to commemorate the establishment of the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation.
