Kathmandu, October 8

Nepal and India have finalised and signed the standard operating procedure for the resumption of the cross-border Janakpur-Jainagar railway.

A meeting of the concerned officials held in New Delhi recently finalised the deal, and the officials also signed it, informs the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

In particular, the procedure addresses issues such as customs, immigration, security and information, among others. Infrastructures for these facilities are yet to be prepared along the railway.

The procedure has it that the railway operation will begin as the needful infrastructures would be developed gradually. Likewise, India has agreed to train personnel from both sides for the operation of the railway.

The railway service had discontinued in 2014, but efforts were being made to resume its operation. Yet, the reopening date has not been finalised.
