The Kathmandu District Court has issued an interim order to halt the screening of the film Aktor : Take One. The court has summoned both parties for discussion on February 4.
Yagya Mani Neupane, the legal representative of the petitioner, Nepal Diaspora Entertainment Pvt Ltd, informed Onlinekhabar about the interim order. The court’s website also mentions the issuance of an interim order to summon the respondents.
The order was issued on Tuesday by single bench Judge Dhakaram Paudel. The court stated in its order, “Since it appears that the petitioner’s film Aktor is currently being screened and the respondent’s film is in the process of being screened, an interim order has been issued to halt the screening of Aktor : Take One until further discussion, considering convenience and balance.
The Film Development Board has also been named as a respondent in this order. The respondents must be informed about this order.”
The producers of the film Aktor had filed a writ petition in court on Friday, demanding a halt to the screening of Aktor : Take One. Directed by Rajan Bhusal, Aktor : Take One was set to be released from Wednesday.
There has been a dispute between the two films over the title for some time. The writ petition sought appropriate compensation and legal action under copyright laws.
The writ names the Film Development Board, production companies Adrut Films and Moti Films as respondents. The petition accuses the respondents of illegally using the title and storyline, violating legal provisions, and making the title appear original despite being identical.
Additionally, the writ demands a complete ban on the screening of Aktor : Take One in any form, whether in cinemas, digital platforms, or television, until further notice.
