Broadsheet dailies (both in Nepali and English) published in Kathmandu on Thursday, April 28, 2016, have chosen issues of their liking to go on the front page. While most papers have given space to political stories, others have focused on economic and social issues.

Greek abduction saga 

Naya Patrika, Republica, Gorkhapatra and Rajdhani have reports on their front page on how the curtain was drawn on the kidnapping of a Nepali woman in Greece, 13 days after her abduction by two Nepali nationals and three others of different nationalities. The report quotes SP Dibes Lohani of CIB as saying that Aaiti Ghale, 31, and Dal Thapa Tamang, 35, have been arrested by Greek police over the incident. Similarly, Indian national, Jamal Kazi, a Bangladeshi, Mammun Mullah, and a Pakistani, Monsoor Ahmed, have also been detained, and two Bangladeshis connected with the case are absconding.

Thapa, UK minister discuss Col Lama case 

Annapurna Post in its anchor says that Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, who met the UK’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hugo Swire in London, told British officials that it was sad that Col Kumar Lama, was still not allowed out of Britain three years since his arrest.  The report says that Swire told Thapa that the case of Lama, who has been accused of meting out inhumane torture, is sub-judice, and the hearing would begin again in June.

Court orders Dixit presented before it

Rajdhani, Annapurna Post and Nagarik have reports on their front pages on the apex court order to the CIAA to present Dixit before it on Monday.

Most of Nepal reeling under drought 

Nagarik in its lead story with a screaming banner headline says most of Nepal is reeling under a severe drought. In its six-column box-cum-lead story, the report carries a map of Nepal showing the distribution of rainfall across Nepal this summer. According to the map, only Mustang has received near-normal rainfall this year. In a side story to go with the main story, the report says meteorologists have attributed the drought to the El Nino effect.

Nepali Congress party office now fully restored

Gorkhapatra in its second anchor for the day says the office of the Nepali Congress party in Kathmandu, which was damaged by the quake last year, has been fully restored. It quotes a party leader as saying that more than Rs 10 million was spent on restoring the office in Sanepa.
