Nepali Congress CWC member Khum Bahadur: Referendum needed on secularism

Khum-Bahadur-Khadka

Kathmandu, March 16

Nepali Congress central committee member Khum Bahadur Khadka, who is considered a ‘hardliner’ within the party, has said secularism was imposed on Nepal without the consent of the people.

In an interview aired by BBC Nepali Service on Wednesday night, Khadka, who received the second-highest number of votes in the recently concluded general convention, said he will raise the issue in the party’s new central committee.

We may even need to take the issue to the Mahasamiti, Khadka said, adding that a decision would have to be taken to amend the constitution after a referendum.

Khadka, however, said that the issue of Hindu state should not be linked with monarchy.
