
Kathmandu, July 25
Political leaders and people from the sports fraternity on Tuesday paid final tributes to mountaineer and athlete Sanjay Pandit, who had died while descending Mt Denali (6,190 m), North America’s highest mountain in June.

His body was brought to Nepal last night after around 40 days of the incident. The body had been taken to the National Sports Council this morning, where leaders from political parties, sports personalities, mountaineers and his other fans gathered for the last tributes.

His funeral will be held in home district Pyuthan, says a family source. Therefore, the mortal remains will be taken to Pyuthan on a helicopter this afternoon.
The 28-year-old was a veteran of 11 successful mountain expeditions, including those to Everest, Manaslu, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus and Kosciuszko.
