With the confirmation of the second coronavirus case in Nepal on Monday afternoon, Kathmandu city has fallen silent fearing the infection’s spread.
The government announced to impose a lockdown in the country beginning this morning but Kathmandu looked already deserted since the early afternoon yesterday.
On Friday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had addressed the nation and announced to close down all non-essential offices and organisations as a preventive measure against the spread of the virus. In his address, he had announced to suspend all international flights as well as long-route buses from Sunday and Monday respectively.
Following which the Tribhuvan International Airport and the Gongabu bus park have emptied.
From Sunday, all the counters in the bus park and taxi stands have also been empty.
People wanting to go outside Kathmandu have been barred from travelling to prevent the virus from spreading like wildfire.
With a confirmation on news of the second virus now, the operation of the Kathmandu airport and all long-route buses have been suspended indefinitely.
