Neon-red warning sign: Squid game and parenting

The Netflix series Squid Game needs to come with a neon-red warning sign for children.

But even if you instructed your children not to watch it, there is a good chance they saw it at a friend’s house or on their computer without you knowing. Squid Game continues to make news. Squid Game highlights how easy it is to get hooked on gambling, drinking, or other risky pursuits.

Help your child find the words to discuss what they saw and what they are feeling. They likely witnessed more intense violence and betrayal in the series than they are used to seeing. The show also portrays adults having sex, threats of sexual violence, and sadistic pleasures.

You might not have been able to stop your children from seeing the vivid brutality of Squid Game, but you can help them process what they saw and help them make better choices for their own futures. Violent video games may increase aggression and decrease empathy, especially in kids and teens who play for many hours.

The findings

Advances in Social Sciences Research Journal Vol. 6, No. 9 An article titled—Do Video Games Make Kids Saints or Psychopaths?—describes the connection between video game isolation and depression. Based on the narration, it is possible to argue that isolation comes before depression sets in.

A study by Gentile et al. (2011) was published in the journal. Pediatrics presents great insight into the effect of gaming on initially socially shy children. After researching thousands of students in Singapore, where participants varied regarding age groups and grade levels, over a period.

The researchers established that children who were impulsive, less socially apt, and less comfortable with other children spent more time playing video games.

This knowledge is important to parents since they need to understand the effect of games on their children. Guided by this understanding, they need to limit the intensity of gaming among their children to raise happy and emotionally balanced children.

Additionally, children who are addicted to gaming always become withdrawn from social events and friends.

The worth of video games

The behavior increases their chances of developing depression. The research is important to parents, clinicians, counselors, and children departments, among other stakeholders, since it helps to set policies and guidelines that promote healthier childhood.

Overall, this study has demonstrated that even though video games may play a role in enhancing certain mental skills and abilities, the negative effects of excessive gaming significantly outweigh their benefits.

In light of these considerations, it is crucial that educators, parents, and policymakers ion to minimise children’s exposure to potentially harmful video games. Heavy game playing creates anti-social behaviours among children who instead learn new skills, especially aggression from the games.

In addition to exacerbating a child’s fight or flight response, excessive gaming can induce what is known as dysregulation, or the inability to regulate one’s moods, attention, or arousal level in order to properly match the surrounding environment.

Parent Reviews from Netflix: Squid Game, I personally really liked it as a 19-year-old, but I definitely do not think it is for kids. I know for a fact that if I were still 13, I would have watched it at school with friends, and I would have been fine, I think, but I do not see the point of kids seeing this much graphic violence.

Some parents said, I would not let a kid that young watch it, even if they are ’mature’; this kind of violence and dehumanisation still affects your brain in one way or another, especially in kids whose brains are developing in a very important way at that age.
