Kathmandu, October 18
Nepal imported over 46 million litre diesel from India through the newly inaugurated pipeline in the past one month. The cross-country petroleum pipeline was jointly inaugurated by prime ministers of Nepal and India on September 10.
Since then Nepal imported 46 million litre diesel till Wednesday, according to the Nepal Oil Corporation. The corporation says the oil has not leaked while importing through the pipeline.
The corporation is importing only diesel through the pipeline due to storage problems. After storing it at the Amalekhgunj depot, it is supplied to other depots of the corporation as demanded.
The corporation says it has stopped the import of diesel via Barauni, Baitalapur, Mugalsarai and Goda after the pipeline came into operation.
The pipeline is the first of its kind in South Asia.
