Kathmandu, June 5
Nepal meteorological officials announced the monsoon onset in the country on Sunday.
It means the monsoon waves have entered Nepal eight days before the normal date of June 13. Nonetheless, the meteorologists had already forecast early monsoon onset this year.
In its special weather bulletin, the Meteorological Forecasting Division says the waves entered Province 1, the eastern-most part of Nepal, today. It will take a few more days for the waves to spread across the country, the statement says.
The monsoon lasts for around three months, during which the country receives over 80 per cent of the annual precipitation, causing devastating floods and landslides every year.
