Kathmandu, October 16
Nepal Police chief says he has prioritised the investigation into the rape and murder of the 13-year-old Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur of Sudurpaschim.
It has been two years and three months since the notorious incident took place, but the national police organisation has failed to identify the murderers and their motives.
In this context, in an interview with Onlinekhabar, Inspector General Shailesh Thapa Kshetri says, “I wish the investigation would conclude as soon as possible. But, some investigations cannot be restricted into a deadline.”
A hopeful Thapa, however, says, “Sometimes, an investigation’s status today could be zero, but tomorrow it could be cent per cent. I cannot make any assumption about the investigation.”
“We are serious about this case,” the police chief says, adding qualified and proven investigation officers have been mobilised to look into the case.
“I am not reluctant to state that this is the first concern of Nepal Police currently.”
Thapa says he is aware that the Nepal Police’s failure to crack the mystery of this case has tarnished the organisation’s image, and a successful probe only will correct that.
