Kathmandu, August 19
For the first time in Nepal, an “International Children’s Literature Conference” will be held on September 20-21, 2024, at the Nepal Academy, Kamaladi. The event, coordinated by Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Academy Bimal Nibha, is expected to bring together around 25 international writers and creators from countries such as India, China, Sri Lanka, Japan, and the USA.
Dubbed the “International Children’s Literature Conference 2024,” the event will feature over two dozen research papers on various dimensions of children’s literature, presented by both Nepali and foreign scholars. According to programme secretary Bijay Raj Acharya, the conference is an opportunity for Nepali children’s literature to gain international exposure, while also allowing local writers to learn from global peers.
The conference, organised in collaboration with the Nepal Children’s Literature Society and Room to Read, will include panel discussions, storytelling sessions, and exhibitions of children’s books and art. The event aims to strengthen Nepal’s standing in the international children’s literature community, said Pramod Pradhan, President of the Nepal Children’s Literature Society.
Subcommittees for financial management, promotion, and guest hospitality are working to ensure the event’s success. Co-organisers include the Asia Foundation and ANESAS, among others. The conference will be conducted in both Nepali and English, with translation services available for foreign language presentations.
