Kathmandu, March 14
A Chinese team is coming to Nepal early next month to conclude the study of the petroleum extraction potential in Dailekh of Nepal.
The China Geological Survey is carrying out a study on the potential for the past few years. In a preliminary study, it has already said there could be some petroleum reserve.
Now, the team will produce a report, even specifying the volume of the resource and technical aspects of mining if it is still possible to extract fuel.
This phase will take 11 to 28 months followed by even a longer phase of 29 to 36 months.
“A team of 23 members including experts will arrive here on April 1. Currently, we are working on their visa papers,” Ram Prasad Ghimire, the chief of the Department of Mines and Geology, says. The department is working with the Chinese company on the extraction following an agreement with the company in 2019.
If the extraction in Dailekh turns successful, similar research will be done in Palpa also, according to the department.
