In the Parliament, there’s a downpour of populist programmes, it appears.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, presenting the government’s policies and programmes in the Parliament on Sunday, said the government will redistribute and relocate teachers and schools on the basis of their needs. The government will also make sure that poor students get facilities like daytime meals, free textbooks, etc. It will make Nepal Scout more effective through its organisational expansion.
The government also plans to provide interest-free loan to youths on the basis of their educational qualifications.
It will also provide the internet in schools and colleges. And in coordination with Nepal Television, it will launch an education channel.
And for promotion of science and technology, the government will establish a Madan Bhandari Science and Technology Institute the next year. It will establish a high-level education commission for enhancing the quality of education in the country.
The government will also focus on agriculture education and plans include expansion of agriculture campuses. For educating the people in remote areas of the country it will launch distant learning programmes and also run open universities. Focus will be on providing scientific, job-oriented education as well as training.
Neo-natal and maternal health will also be on priority. Neo-natal health services will be expanded in all districts.
The government also plans to upgrade physical infrastructure of hospitals. It will step up monitoring of pharmacies to ensure they play by the rules and do not hike drug prices on their own. As per the plan, child protection programme will be expanded throughout the country gradually.
There’s something for people with disabilities too. A member from each family, which has at least a person with disabilities, will get job-oriented training as well as training on disability management.
Construction of women’s toilets in public places will be made mandatory. In 20 districts of Tarai-Madhesh, the government will launch special economic development programmes.
In the fiscal 2073-74, the government will build and hand over 20,000 houses to Dalits, endangered and poor people. Starting this fiscal, the government will also launch a programme with an aim to provide self-employment to 50,000 youths every year.
