Kathmandu, March 10
Major political parties have demanded that the government of Nepal inform the Parliament about the SSB firing that killed a Nepali national during a territorial dispute in Ananda Bazaar, Kanchanpur district. At the same time, they have criticised a press statement coming from the Indian Embassy, in which it has denied firing from the Indian side.
Taking special time in the Parliament on Friday, CPN-UML lawmaker Bhim Rawal accused the government of undermining the sovereign Parliament in the whole episode. He objected that the government had not taken initiatives for making India apologise for the killing and getting compensation for the bereaved family.
UML lawmaker Bhim Rawal: A few days ago, an SSB officer entered Nepali territory and looted goats from the house of Chhanda Tamang (in Kanchanpur). We tried to draw the government’s attention towards the matter, but to no avail. Because of this inaction, SSB entered Nepali territory and killed a patriotic Nepali.
Rawal further said: A few days before the Ananda Bazaar shooting, an SSB officer entered Nepali territory and looted goats from the house of Chhanda Tamang. We tried to draw the government’s attention towards the matter, but to no avail. Because of this inaction, SSB entered Nepali territory and killed a patriotic Nepali.
He demanded that the government declare Govinda Gautam, who died in the SSB firing, a patriotic fighter. Rawal said the government was doing nothing even when sovereignty had come under attack.
Rawal also objected to a statement from lawmaker Ashok Rai. Referring to an Indian Embassy statement that there was no firing from SSB, Rai had described the incident as mysterious. He said patriotic hearts are bleeding on hearing such a remark.
NC lawmaker Tarini Dutta Chataut: Indian security personnel killed a Nepali by barging into Nepal. The government should take diplomatic initiatives and get compensation for the bereaved family.
Speaking during special time, Nepali Congress lawmaker from Kanchanpur, Tarini Dutta Chataut, said Indian security personnel killed a Nepali by barging into Nepal.
He said: The government should take diplomatic initiatives and get compensation for the bereaved family.
CPN-Maoist Centre lawmaker Agni Prasad Sapkota said the government release on the Kanchanpur incident was not clear.
He said: There can be no compromise on nationalism. The Home Ministry’s press release is contradictory. The government should come clean on the matter.
MJF (Democratic) lawmaker Yogendra Chaudhary said the government should take initiatives for claiming compensation in the Kanchanpur incident. Chaudhary said this incident has increased challenges to nationalism.
NWPP lawmaker Anuradha Thapa: India has never let Nepal and Nepalis live in peace. The Kanchanpur incident is a continuation of this
Lawmaker from the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party, Anuradha Thapa Magar, said India has never let Nepal and Nepalis live in peace. She said: The Kanchanpur incident is a continuation of this.
Thapa said the Prime Minister should inform the Parliament about this incident.
