Kathmandu, March 7
The Pashupati Area Development Trust has begun a procedure to sell sand and soil from its land in the Pashupati area for over Rs 2 billion.
Issuing a public notice today, the trust has called for bids to extract sand and soil from the Gothatar area on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu, near the holy site, and sell them.
The bidders have been told to commit to paying at least Rs 2.125 billion for the extraction of 3.764 million cubic metre sand and 1.613 cubic metre soil.
The trust’s Executive Director Ghanashyam Khatiwada says the bidders have to commit at least Rs 20 for a cubic metre of sand and at least s 3.8 for a cubic metre of soil.
The trust had decided to mine construction materials from the site and sell them, on September 6, 2020.
Sand and soil theft are frequently reported in the area.
Meanwhile, the trust’s Member-Secretary Pradeep Khatiwada says the trust will construct a university, a hospital, an old-age home, and a cowshed in the area. He says the trust had been studying the proposal of selling sand and soil there for the past two years.
