Photojournalists barred entry at National Democracy Day programme

Photojournalists protest

Kathmandu, February 19

Photojournalists representing various media outlets have been barred from entering the National Democracy Day at Tudikhel on Monday.

They were barred from entry as the officials said they did not have invitation cards for the event.

The country, on Monday, is celebrating the 74th National Democracy Day by organising various programmes across the country.

On February 18, 1951, National Democracy Day was established to commemorate the end of the autocratic Rana dynasty after 104 years and the announcement of the establishment of democracy in Nepal.

To mark the occasion, a special program was organized at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel. However, photojournalists were barred from entering the venue.

In protest, the photojournalists collectively downed their cameras as they were denied entry, despite possessing identification cards issued by the Department of Information and Broadcasting.
