Private and community schools based in Rautahat district closed on Sunday to mourn the loss of seven teachers from the district in Friday’s tragic bus fall into Trishuli that killed at least 22 people.
The community schools chose to shut for a day at the call of Nepal Teachers’ Federation, while private schools closed at the call of Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal.
The deceased teachers are Chitta Ranjan Yadav of Mudbalba-3, Rajesh Prasad Yadav of Mudbalba-6, Ram Balak Jaiswal of Mudbalba-2 Ravi Ranjan Yadav of Mudbalba-3, Sandhya Srivastav of Sirsiya, Ganesh Sah of Basatpur-1 and Rakesh Yadav of Laukaha. They were heading for exam centres in Damauli and Pokhara for taking Education Commission-conducted exams for making teachers permanent.
Mani Shankar Nidhi, president of Nepal Teachers’ Organisation, a federation affiliate, said they chose to close the school in mourning.
Last rites of 14 victims have already been performed, whereas kin have received bodies of five Indian nationals, who were among the dead, it is learnt. Search for six missing passengers is going on.
