Kathmandu, March 6
National Reconstruction Authority informed on Sunday it will begin distributing the first installment of grants to people (Rs 50,000), who lost their houses in last year’s earthquakes, in a week.
At a press conference organised at its office, NRA said grant distribution will begin from Singati of Dolakha district.
Grant distribution reportedly got delayed due to the Nepali Congress’ 13th general convention.
CEO of the authority, Sushil Gyawali, said they will provide the first installment of the grant for the construction of private houses via bank. He said affected people can withdraw the sum at suitable time and begin house construction works. In the second installment, the quake-hit people, who have lost their homes in the disaster, will get Rs 80,000 per household, whereas they will get Rs 70,000 in the third installment. Four days ago, the government had approved a guideline on distributing two lakh rupeees to earthquake-affected people.
By the month of Baishakh, 2073, we will reach agreements for distribution of grants to 11 quake-hit districts outside of the Kathmandu Valley, Gyawali informed.
Outside the valley, NRA has mobilised 1,500 engineers for collecting details of damage that last year’s quakes caused. In Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts, data collection has not even begun.
This, because there are differences between economic, social and technical situations in the valley and the quake-affected districts outside it. Gyawali said they aim to distribute grants to quake-affected people in the valley before the onset of monsoon.
