Redmi Watch 2 Lite: The popular brand is all set to compete against new ones

Redmi Watch 2 Lite, one of the latest smartwatches from the Redmi brand, has recently been made available in the Nepali market.

With the rise in the popularity of smartwatches, companies now are shifting their focus on making affordable wearables. The wearables are not only used for health and fitness tracking but are also considered a fashion statement these days.

The latest launch from Xiaomi, Redmi Watch 2 Lite, is a successor of Mi Watch Lite which was launched last year. It has some impressive features such as stress tracking and a strong battery. However, given the availability of products from less-known brands also with the same features in the same price range, the market competition is likely to be tough for Redmi Watch 2 Lite.

Design and build

Redmi Watch 2 Lite features a similar design to its predecessor Mi Watch Lite. It sports a square-shaped 1.55-inch TFT display and has a resolution of 320*360 pixels. Xiaomi states that Watch 2 Lite offers a high-resolution, more colourful, more detailed display. It can achieve a peak brightness of 350 nits. The user also has the option to choose from more than 100 watch faces.

It is also said that there is a 10% increase in screen-to-body ratio than the previous generation’s watch. This means more room for visual and touch control. There is also a side button on the watch for navigation. The device comes with a detachable TPU strap that has an adjustable length from 140-210mm. Likewise, the watch weighs 35g and has a thickness of 10.7mm. 

Redmi Watch 2 Lite also has a 5ATM certification against water damage. The Watch 2 Lite comes in three colour options: black, blue and ivory.

Fitness tracking features and sensors

Redmi Watch 2 Lite offers a wide variety of features for users. There is a PPG sensor for real-time heart rate monitoring and the accuracy is said to have increased this time. It can also measure blood oxygen (SpO2), 24- hour heart rate tracking and sleep tracking. Moreover, it has 100+ workout modes which include cycling, swimming hiking, yoga, walking and many more. There is also a 24-hour sleep monitoring feature that can provide reports on deep sleep, light sleep, and REM stages.

This smartwatch is powered by an Apollo 3.5 chipset which makes it faster than the previous generation. It also has a built-in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) with support for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BDS. This allows the user to track their workout routes without the need of carrying a smartphone. It also supports menstrual cycle tracking, stress monitoring and breathing exercise. Other sensors on the watch include an accelerometer, compass, and gyro.

Furthermore, the watch also displays message notifications from the phone, but there is no option to reply. Likewise, the user gets an incoming call notification but again you cannot answer the call directly from the watch itself.

Battery, connectivity and other features

The Redmi Watch 2 Lite gets its power from a 262mAh battery. The battery is rated to last up to 10 days under typical usage mode and up to five days under heavy usage mode. The battery gets charged through magnetic charging. The connectivity option on the watch includes Bluetooth 5.0 while it can be paired with a smartphone via the Mi Fit app.
