Kathmandu, August 15
Sher Bahadur Deuba and Gagan Thapa-Pradip Poudel camps within the Nepali Congress have announced a joint panel that will take part in the election for the leadership of the Nepal Students’ Union.
The nomination registration process has got delayed due to continued objection from the Ram Chandra Poudel camp. Efforts are on to build an understanding between Deuba and Ram Chandra camps. The deadline for filing nominations expires at 6 pm on Monday.
Deuba camp is fielding Nain Singh Mahar for NSU presidency, whereas the Thapa-Poudel camp is fielding Kundan Kafle for the position of general secretary. Kafle had staked claim on NSU presidency; he relented after the formation of an alliance comprising Deuba camp and Thapa-Poudel camp. Saroj Thapa is another candidate eyeing the position of general secretary. The two camps are yet to agree on candidates for vice-president and treasurer, even as a leader said discussions for the same are underway.
