Kathmandu, November 20

Once again, locals around Sisdol of Nuwakot, where most of the garbage produced in the Kathmandu valley is dumped, have forwarded various demands to stakeholders, warning they would block the garbage trucks if the demands were not met.

They issued a 15-day ultimatum on Friday, demanding ‘scientific’ waste management, life insurance for the locals considering hazards caused by the garbage, and expedited development works in the area among others.

If the concerned authorities do not address the concerns by December 5, they warn, they will obstruct the road barring the waste disposal process.

Meanwhile, extending his solidarity to the protest, provincial lawmaker Badri Mainali says the decision to dump garbage nearby a human settlement was wrong. Because it is already in practice, authorities should well-manage the human settlement, he demanded.

Likewise, Ghana Shyam Bajgain, the chairman of Kakani rural municipality’s ward 3, says the Kathmandu metropolitan city has been treating the locals inhumanely.
