The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) hosted its second edition of the Feminist Finance Forum in Bangkok, Thailand recently.
The in-person Forum convened women entrepreneurs, investors, financial service providers, policymakers, thought leaders, ecosystem enablers, representatives from civil society and women grassroots organisations, and academia.
The interactive event included a diverse mix of plenaries, concurrent sessions, as well as side-events and networking spaces.
Representing Nepal, MP Sobita Gautam shared the topic of how global crises are hitting Nepal hard. She elaborated on the consequences of global warming and climate change caused by the Western world’s hunger for industrial growth. She gave the example of Melamchi in the event.
“We paid the cost of luxury we never used,” she said, “The Western world needs to start focusing on sustainable and climate-friendly industrial development and chip in for the loss and damage fund.”
She added that the fund must be adequately financed, replenished to scale from time to time, easily accessible, and responsive to country-driven requests without exacerbating the debt of particularly vulnerable countries.
