Kathmandu, February 2
People throughout the country are observing Sripanchamai by worshipping Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning. They believe the day is auspicious, especially for small children, who have yet to start their formal, school-based education. On this day, many guardians impart children their first lessons on writing and reading.
And schools cash in on this occasion by opening admission. Many schools enroll children either for free or by offering discount. On this day, people, including young children, visit Saraswati temples to scribble on the temple walls in a bid to please the Goddess of Learning.
