Kathmandu, April 14
Bijaya Bahadur Swar, the newly elected president of the Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs, has demanded that the government should not impose the 20-year age limit for the vehicles scrapped.
Currently, the government does not allow vehicles older than 20 years to run citing the higher level of pollution they cause.
But, in an interview with the News Agency Nepal, Swar says it is not appropriate for people to dump their precious vehicles imported from other countries.
He argues a vehicle should be allowed to operate even after 20 years once the standard pollution test finds the vehicle is okay.
“The 20-year age limit is not scientific,” he says, adding the provision is not beneficial for the country in any way.
