Kathmandu, July 19
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation‘s Alternative Energy Promotion Centre has received the aid of Rs 2.55 billion from the United Nations to promote the use of electric stoves.
An agreement has been met with the UN’s Green Climate Fund, informs the centre’s spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal.
The Finance Ministry has said that the plan is to first replace all stoves in the Terai region. The government plans to give electric stoves to nearly 1 million households. In the first phase, the government plans to hand over 500,000 such stoves to people in the Terai. The government is also planning to set up 10,000 biogas plants.
The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre will work with municipalities and rural municipalities of the Terai region to implement this.
The government, to minimise the use of fossil fuel, has been planning to promote the use of electric stoves throughout the country.
