Kathmandu, April 15
The United States government has pledged, through an agreement, to provide $121 million rupees to five projects.
Through the United States Aid for International Development (USAID), the US will give $63 million to Helen Keller International for implementation of Suaahara II, a nutrition improvement project. The project will conduct five-year programmes on mother-child nutrition improvement in 40 districts. In these districts, the project will also launch drinking water, sanitation, access to health service, kitchen garden, vegetable farming and poultry farm projects.
Under Seed and Fertiliser project, International Maize and Wheat Research Centre will get around $15 million. The five-year project will be implemented in 25 districts in coordination with private companies. The project aims to help farmers increase crop production by providing them seeds and fertilisers.
It has pledged around $2.5 million for development of sustainable, judicious and productive water resource development projects in Western Nepal.
This three-year project will help communities living along Karnali and Mahakali basins with management of rivers and ponds in a sustainable manner.
The US has pledged Family Health International-360 $15 million for implementation of the mutual accountability project, which is under civil society. The five-year project will strengthen civil society organisations working to increase accountability and effectiveness of the government. While DI Global will get $25 million for the implementation of the Programme for Aquatic Natural Resources Improvement. The five-year programme will help local communities draw economic benefit from rivers and ponds, apart from enabling them to protect local fish and wild animals.
