Kathmandu, September 13

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav says the Election Commission will not make complaints about the recent Cabinet expansion anymore as  it has already clearly stated that the move was a violation of the election code of conduct.

Responding to a journalist’s query on why the Commission is reluctant to take action against people in the government, the chief of constitutional body said at a programme in Kathmandu today, “Can we fine the right honourable Prime Minister?”

Meanwhile, Yadav accepted that political parties and candidates were violating election code of conduct in Province 2 ahead of local level elections scheduled for September 18.

He said the Commission had sought clarifications from leaders if they were found violating the code.

“But, people have taken the elections as a festival. The breach of conduct is also an expression of their enthusiasm,” he maintained.

“If you find any candidate throwing parties, please come with evidence and I will take action.”

He assured that all preparations for the September 18 polls had been over.
