Voting for selection of Nepali Congress’ new leadership is likely to continue for four more hours.
As of 2.30 pm, 1,400 votes have been cast, according to the Congress election committee. This general convention has a total of 3,161 voters. Gopal Krishna Ghimire of the committee said, “We expect voting to be over in about four hours. At City Hall, voting had begun at 9.15 am, 1.25 hours behind schedule.
Vote counting
Vote counting will begin on Sunday itself. Counting will start an hour after the end of voting. Votes cast in the NC race for party president’s post will be counted at City Hall, whereas votes cast for other positions will be counted at the party’s central office in Sanepa.
Next round at 10 am
Votes will be counted throughout the night. Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ramchandra Poudel and Krishna Sitaula are in the fray for party president’s post. If any of the three candidates fails to garner 51 per cent of the votes cast, there will be another round of voting, which will start at 10 am on Monday.
Lucky draw
The election committee said it will start counting votes cast for other positions only after counting the votes cast in the race for party presidency. Whoever leads in the vote count will be declared winner in case of the races for general secretary, treasurer and other positions. If there’s a tie, the winner will be selected through lucky draw.
