A powerful earthquake jolted Sindhupalchok early this morning, with tremors strong enough to wake residents in Kathmandu.
According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake, measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, was centered in Bhairavkund, Sindhupalchok. The quake struck at 2:51 am.
The tremor was felt across the Kathmandu Valley, alarming many residents. Details regarding damage and casualties are yet to be reported.
In 2015, a devastating earthquake with its epicenter in Barpak, Gorkha, claimed over 9,000 lives and caused massive destruction to homes and infrastructure. Sindhupalchok was among the hardest-hit districts.
