8 police officers injured in clash with RSP supporters in Chitwan

Chitwan, December 4

Eight police officers were injured during a clash with Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) supporters in Chitwan. The incident occurred as RSP activists staged a protest demanding the release of party president Rabi Lamichhane.

The clash erupted when protesters attempted to block the route to the government attorney’s office. SP Gautam Mishra stated that security forces used tear gas and water cannons after protesters began pelting stones.

“The police did not use force. The injuries occurred due to stone-throwing by the protesters,” SP Mishra clarified. The confrontation intensified after protesters breached a restricted area near the district police office while demanding Lamichhane’s release.

The injured officers are receiving treatment at Bharatpur Hospital.

On the protesters’ side, 16 individuals were reported injured, according to RSP Chitwan President Krishna Bhushal. The injured are being treated at Bharatpur Community Hospital, Narayani Community Hospital, and Dev Hospital, among others.

RSP President Lamichhane is currently being questioned at the government attorney’s office in connection with the Sahara Cooperative fraud case. He was brought to Chitwan from Kathmandu on Tuesday after allegations surfaced that Rs 108 million from Sahara Cooperative had been misappropriated and transferred to Gorkha Media.
