- True Madheshis cannot even think of declaring Madhesh a separate state
- An experts’ commission should be formed to resolved disputes related to provincial boundaries. The disputes should be sorted out on the basis of the commission’s report
- Government should exercise restraint, Madheshi parties should adopt democratic processes for dispute resolution
Biratnagar, March 18
Former President Ram Baran Yadav said on Friday 90 per cent of Madhesh’s demands have been fulfilled through Constitution amendment. He called on the government to meet rest of the demands through political understanding.
President Yadav, talking to journalists in Biratnagar, said the major parties should solve disputes related to provincial boundaries by taking Madheshi parties into confidence.
Boundary demarcation is the main disputed issue, he said, adding: It will be appropriate to form a commission comprising experts and solve the dispute based on the commission’s report. Demarcation is a technical issue and we should not seek political solution to such an issue, he said.
For resolution of current problems, the government should exercise restraint and the Madheshi parties should also adopt democratic processes, Yadav said.
Only a handful of people with extremist bent of mind want to see Madhesh become a separate state, Yadav said, adding: True Madheshis cannot even think of declaring Madhesh a separate state.
During the Madhesh movement, the country suffered huge economic and infrastructural losses, Yadav said, adding: Both Madheshi parties and government should exercise restraint to prevent such losses.
