Kathmandu, April 17

A Maoist party staged a demonstration in Kathmandu on Sunday against what it called the KP Oli government’s ‘preparations’ to hand over the contract for construction of a fast-track linking the national capital with the country’s southern plains.

The Kathmandu valley bureau of the Biplav-led Maoist party led the rally against the ‘plan’ to hand over the Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast-track construction work to India. The rally originating from Shanti Batika turned into a corner meeting at Shanti Batika after passing through Jamal, Ghantaghar and Bagbazaar.

The Maoist party claimed that then government had decided to hand over the contract to an Indian company a year ago. “The state itself should invest in this project. Nepali companies should build this project,” party General Secretary Biplav said in an appeal.
