Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track: Government forms taskforce on development of ambitious project

The Prachanda government has constituted a taskforce on the development of Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track.

Thursday’s meeting of the Cabinet formed a seven-member taskforce under Min Bahadur Shrestha, vice-chair of the National Planning Commission.

Within a month, the taskforce will recommend the government on issues like whether to use the existing DPR of the project or prepare a new one, seek public investment for the ambitious project or explore other alternatives, among others.

After the meeting, government Spokesperson and Information Minister Ram Karki said: The taskforce will recommend whether to collect money from the public for the project or call some government entity to invest in the project. The government will move ahead as per the taskforce’s suggestions.

The Cabinet has decided to upgrade Shuklafanta Wildlife Reserve into a national park.

It also decided to give its theoretical nod for establishment of a Peace Fund and drafting of a Bill for constitution and operation of provincial civil service. The meeting also decided to establish a body for facilitating artificial organ transplant. The Cabinet has appointed Robus Kusum Subedi as general manager of Nepal Drugs Limited.
