Kathmandu, January 5
The Prachanda-led government on Thursday sacked chief executive officer of the National Reconstruction Authority, Sushil Gyawali.
The sacking came days after the government sought clarification from Gyawali, describing his performance as unsatisfactory.
In his clarification submitted yesterday, Gyawali said then government had appointed him to the post last year for five years. He had said that asking for clarification was pointless.
Thursday’s Cabinet meeting sacked Gyawali, describing his clarification as unsatisfactory. A source at the Council of Ministers said it will appoint Gyawali’s successor on Thursday itself and make both the decisions public at the same time.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Prachanda said: It’s clear as daylight that NRA CEO has failed to perform. He informed that new CEO will be appointed today itself. But he did not disclose the successor’s name.
According to sources, the government will take a decision after consulting Attorney-General Raman Shrestha.
Then KP Oli government had appointed Gyawali as NRA CEO about a year ago. The Prachanda government was not happy with CEO Gyawali, pointing that the pace of post-quake reconstruction work was very slow.
Gyawali enjoys support of the CPN-UML and had threatened to move the court if the government fires him.
